The procedure to permanently remove an ingrown toenail for most people much less traumatic than they have imagined. The toe will have to be made numb with an injection, but after the injection, there is no pain for the remainder of the procedure. Following surgery, you will be given written instructions on the care of the your toe. These can be viewed by clicking here.
I have found through the years that the vast majority of patients who have ingrown toenail tell me that their pain following surgery was significantly less than they had been experiencing before surgery. Most are able to return to normal activities within just a few days. Total healing time following surgery to permanently remove an ingrown toenail is approximately two to three weeks if only the ingrown portion of the nail is removed. If the entire toenail is removed, healing time can be a few weeks longer. For more information on ingrown toenails, click here.
