Faq Orthotic Lifespan

The answer to how long orthotics last varies greatly depending on your activity level and the type of orthotic that was fabricated for you. Orthotics are made from many different types of materials. A rigid orthotic will naturally have a longer lifespan that one that is made of softer materials. In addition, many orthotics have softer coverings which can be refurbished without the need for replacing the orthotics themselves. For patients who are very active, be it at work or with sporting activities, orthotics will naturally have a shorter lifespan. Instead of asking how long your orthotic will last, a better question would be asking how your feet are feeling. If your orthotics worked well in relieving your symptoms at first, but are now no longer helping as much, that is a good indication that it is time for a new pair. Generally speaking, orthotics made from softer materials can be expected to last anywhere from one to three years, while a rigid orthotic can last 5 or more years, depending on activity levels.
